The spirit of inclusion is one that is necessary not only to grow teams, but healthy teams. Our heart as a worship leadership team is for the continual flow of new talent. We must always be looking for the people who God has called to be apart of the worship experience but just simply hasn’t been asked or identified.
I have been a worship leader at this amazing church for about 5 years now, and it all started with one person calling me out and challenging me to step into the gift God gave me. The potential of a person is endless when we have the heart of inclusion and do not think we can accomplish anything flying solo.
Practically speaking, we invite people to join our team and then let the rest unfold. Genesis 16:13 describes God as a God ‘who sees’ - we must carry that same expectant sight when recruiting potential team members. The opportunity to identify and steward is an honor and must not be taken lightly. We encourage our entire team from musicians to vocalists to be on the look out for new talent. Every service, before and after, our team is asked to walk around and meet people in the congregation.
Once a person is identified as a potential team member they are invited to come and check out one of our rehearsals. Once they attend and are interested in learning more, we equip them with a Volunteer application and Worship Arts Handbook that states core values, expectations, and practical logistics of being on the team. Of course we must bring attention to the spiritual side where we assess their character and lifestyle outside of the church. This is hugely important. But if we haven’t been given legitimate reason to doubt their character, then they have a clean slate with us.
You must be willing to take the chance on people and partner with God in seeing them flourish in their gifts.
He is a God of the harvest and we are called to steward what He gives, not just our on talent gifts but people. When we walk out this principle, we get to see God’s kingdom advance through His people connecting to their destiny in worship arts here at Celebration, and hopefully one day the world.
